North Dakota RN Required number of CE credits per year(s) | For RN and LPN license renewal, the nurse must meet the continued competence requirements. Included in this requirement is the completion of 12 contact hours of continuing education. All CE required for license renewal may be obtained online. If you recently received your first license in North Dakota and took an examination to receive it, and this is your first renewal of that nursing license, you are NOT REQUIRED to have completed CE courses. If you received your first license in North Dakota by endorsement from another state in the year you are renewing, you must complete 6 contact hours for renewal of your nursing license. |

CE for Specialty: Physical Therapy | CE Requirements: Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants must complete 25 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years. One contact hour equals 60 minutes of instruction. There may be no carryover of credit hours to the next reporting period. 15 hours of the required coursework for any reporting period must be clinically (direct patient care skills) related, of which 5 hours may be CPR. New graduates are exempt from reporting continuing education hours for the period following graduation, but are required to complete the full number of hours for all subsequent years. Even-numbered licenses will report CEU hours during even-numbered renewal years. Odd-numbered licenses report CEU hours during odd-numbered renewal years. Online renewal must be completed by January 31st of the current year. After January 31st an additional $50.00 late fee will be assessed. |
CE for Specialty: Psychology | 40 hours of continuing education must be completed every renewal period. All licensees must complete a minimum of 3 credits in the areas of ethics, law, and jurisprudence. Licenses must be renewed biennially. The renewal cycle extends from November 1st of the year you are licensed and ends on October 31st two years later. |
CE for Specialty: Radiology Technology | No CE required. Only has legislation for training. |
CE for Specialty: Respiratory Therapy | 10 hours of continuing education must be completed in the calendar year prior to the year for which licensure is sought. All CE can be obtained through home-study/self-study courses. |
CE for Specialty: Social Work | Renewal: thirty (30) hours social work continuing education must be completed every two (2) years from date of issue. Newly licensed social workers, licensed after December 31st of the even numbered year, are required to obtain fifteen (15) contact hours of continuing education for the initial renewal period. Social workers licensed after June 30th of the odd numbered year have no continuing education requirement for that licensing period. Home study courses must be approved by the ASWB or NASW. |
